La veille de son arrivée à Paris, Ethos se promenait sous le soleil de São Paulo. Il explique avoir vécu un « choc culturel », devant la manière dont les habitants se comportent avec la météo. Au sein d’une curieuse distorsion, nous pouvons distinguer une femme au visage expressif, coiffée d’un chapeau, tenant un parapluie semblant lui échapper. Elle paraît lutter contre le vent, comme l’indique l’envolée de feuilles orangées l’accompagnant. Il s’agit de la seule touche colorée dans cette œuvre d’un grand dynamisme, le personnage et ses accessoires étant représentés dans des tonalités noires et blanches, typiques du style de l’artiste.
The day before he arrived in Paris, Ethos was walking in the sunshine in Sao Paulo. He explains that he suffered “culture shock” from the way people behave according to the weather. In a strange distortion, we can make out a woman with an expressive face, wearing a hat and holding an umbrella which seems to be getting away from her. She looks as though she is struggling against the wind, suggested by the flying yellow leaves accompanying her. That is the sole touch of colour in this very dynamic work in which the figure and its accessories are depicted in tones of black and white, typical of the style of this artist.
